New: Upcoming Gigs

I get a lot of inquiries as to where I’m playing next (which I am extremely humbled by and appreciative of), but I’m not much of a future planner. I live in the “now.” You know, like a renegade. These things are hard for me to remember off hand, so I made a listing of my Upcoming gigs for this website.

There are a lot of categories of content on this website, and I struggle to balance simplicity with organization. A single chronological listing of everything really appeals to me, and for the most part is what I've done with the home page. But how do you incorporate time-sensitive events in a chronological feed of everything?

Peppering events throughout the general feed is a non-starter. Blog posts are dated in the past, while upcoming events are in the future. Listing them in line would push the other stuff down and essentially turn the home page into an event calendar. Of course, I could make an events page (and will at some point), but that doesn’t jive with my dream of the everything feed.

My solution was to nest a list of upcoming shows in the home page listing just below the first article. It’s essentially a feed of events that is the second item in the everything feed. It will only show up when there are upcoming events, and I can easily reference it in a pinch with an anchor tag.

We’ll see how it goes. I haven't figured out how to incorporate it into the RSS feed yet. I’m looking forward to thinking that through. In the meantime, I need to get practicing. Spring is really ramping up.
