Another Decade, Another Dollar
I’m not really one to think more than a week or so into the past or future — I’m mostly a today guy — but since we are at the turn of another decade, I thought I would take a second to reflect. You know what, a lot can happen in 10 years.
Left: the Eagletons circa 2000; Right: the Eagletons circa 2009.
A lot can happen in ten years. I found my calling after the record distributor I worked for for the previous ten went bankrupt, Kristyn and I had three kids, and I dropped the electric bass.
This decade I made nearly all of my friends. I’ve always been introverted, but loosing a few jobs and having kids requires you to overcome many hang-ups. I’ve jumped around between 6 employers, played in 5 bands, and had 3 vacations. I still have a very hard time talking on the phone, and asking for help at the store, but now I find that I can force myself through difficult social situations and produce results.
Ten years ago, I’m sure someone asked me what I thought I would be doing ten years from then. I probably said that I didn’t really think more than a week or so into the future. I would have been floored if someone were to have said that I would have three kids, be playing double bass in country and bluegrass bands, and making websites for famous rockstars.
When I think of what will happen in the next ten years, I picture some fun family trips, more gigs, and a few great beers. Of course knowing what can happen, I do expect quite a bit more. I have fantasized about moving north to Humboldt County or Portland. Kristyn and I have a talked opening a tap room. At some point in my life, I want to play music full time. I suppose anything is possible.
